GETTING AROUND LONDON

TUBE
London's underground railway (the 'tube') is the oldest and largest network in the world. It can get extremely crowded during the morning and evening 'rush hours'. Usually you will find stations located convenient to your destinations and the tube is a very good way of experiencing daily London life. The big disadvantage? You will not see anything during your journey.

BUS
Another London institution is the red bus. Some of the vehicles have been serving London for more than fifty years. It is by far the cheapest form of public transport but remember that you will also be experiencing London's traffic. But what better way to enjoy a panoramic view of London than from the upper deck of a London bus, listening to a personal commentary from a London Guide?

TAXI
A London 'black cab' (though not all of them are black) is famous throughout the world. Cabbies (the drivers) are trained in 'the knowledge' which means they should know just about any street or destination within a 10 mile radius of Central London. High standards of cleanliness and maintenance of the cabs is enforced, consequently, cabs are not the cheapest way of getting around town but you will get to meet a genuine Londoner, many with a reputation for their willingness to share their views on life, the universe and everything.

FOOT
Behind the facades of the main thoroughfares lie alleyways, courtyards and back streets. It is here that you will find a taste of the real London, the hidden city that the casual visitor so easily misses. The only way to seek these out is on foot. Our guides will reveal to you both historic London and contemporary life. Before you know it you will have arrived at your destination and it will not have cost you a penny.

RIVER
The River Thames is perhaps the most underused highway in London. Several boat companies can offer trips as far as Greenwich and you will have a unique view of London's architecture, unhindered by traffic. The Tate-to-Tate service is especially recommended.
